We arrived at Mears Point Marina 5/19/06. This is where we have our sailboat s/v Cloudnine.
She is a 34' Hunter. We bought her last year in Oriental, NC and sailed her up to here last year, but that is a different story.
Saturday 5/20/06 Today is my daughter's 20th birthday, so we called her to wish her a Happy Birthday. Went to the store to get provisions for the trip. Terry worked on the boat to get it ready to go.
Sunday 5/21/06 We stayed at the marina today as the weather forecast was calling for storms and high winds, 15-20 knots with gusts up to 40-45. We didn't really get any rain, but the wind was really bad. We had dinner at Annie's Restaurant.
Monday 5/22/06 We left the dock at 10:30 am. Going through the Kent Narrows Bridge.
Weather was sunny, temp in the 60's Wind NW 15-20 knots with gust up to 30 knots. Had a good sail down to Solomon's Island. Made it there about 8:20 pm. Anchored at Zanheisers Marina in Back Creek, just as the sun was setting.

Tuesday 5/23/06 We decided to change our anchorage due to we were close to the middle of the channel and the wind was still blowing was making it a bit rocky. Took the dinghy to Zanheisers and docked it there and walked into town. We went to the Calvert Marine Museum.
I now know the difference between a skate and a ray. It is a very interesting place. Worth the tour. We didn't get to tour the Drum Point Lighthouse, the next tour was later than we would be there. From the Museum, we headed into town. Had lunch at Solomon's Pier, very nice resturant on the water. The only bad thing about there is if you don't eat fish there is not much else on the menu other than a burger or grilled chicken sandwich. Solomon's Island is a quaint little town, it has several little unique shops and has a really nice boardwalk with and ice cream shop. Later in the evening, we took the dinghy for a cruise up Back Creek. Went to the Holiday Inn dinghy dock and walked up to the grocery store for ice. Went into Zanheiser's and took a shower. The showers are hot and clean. Paid $3/person for shower. $3 for dinghy parking, and $1 for trash. The day was chilly and windy with sun and clouds, but the evening was beautiful, calm and warm.
Wednesday 5/24/06 Left Back Creek at 8:40 this morning. We are headed back up the bay. Winds were good until about 1 pm then we had to motor sail. We anchored at Dunn Cove off Harris Creek off the Choptank River. Dunn Cove is a beautiful little spot to anchor, it is nice and secluded. We had a beautiful evening. Terry hooked up our new grill and we had steaks and corn on the cob. It was excellent.
Thursday 5/25/06 Left Dunn Cove at 8:15 am Weather is cloudy and overcast, supposed to rain today. Went through Knapps Narrows for the first time, on the Bay side we ran aground right before the turn to red marker "4", the depth gage was alarming pretty much the rest of the way out of the narrows. After that experience, we decided not to try Poplar Island Narrows today. We will save that experience for another day. The Bay was really choppy and windy. While sailing in the Eastern Bay we were going at about 5-6 knots. Arrived back at the marina about 3:20. We had rain at times and light drizzle. Turned into a beautiful evening. About an hour after we arrived back at the dock, Bill and Jane from s/v Galena returned from a 6 1/2 month cruise to the Bahamas, BVI, VI's. Captain Ron and his wife Carol had champagne waiting for them. It was good to see them again. We had dinner at Annie's. Russ and Maggie of s/v Integrity are here along with Jane from m/v Bliss, and Dave of s/v Phoenix Gene of s/v Seawolf should be here tomorrow. On Saturday we are to head to Baltimore Inner Harbor for Memorial Day weekend.
Friday 5/26/06 Hung out at the dock, did laundry. Jane and I went to the grocery store to restock supplies.
Saturday 5/27/06 Left for Baltimore at 8:35 this morning. Weather, cloudy, windy, cool. Arrived at Baltimore Inner Harbor approx 5 pm. Rafted up with s/v Lastdance (Cptn Ron and Carol), s/v Tranquility (John and Gail) they are friends of Captain Ron, s/v Better Days (Billie and Karen). Also rafted up a little further over is s/v Zufrieden (Dave and Penny and kids), s/v Tiami (Bob), s/v Seawolf (Gene and his son), s/v Rising Tide (Jeff and his 2 boys), m/v Bliss (Jane). The Inner Harbor is awesome. I have never been to Baltimore before, either by boat or car so this is quite an experience for me. It is really strange to be on a boat and step off into the big city... "> We walked around a bit tonight. We had dinner at Capital City Brewing Company. A lot of activity going on at the waterfront, there was a band playing and we saw breakdancers. There is a ton of people here. Not sure if it is because of the holiday or it is like this every weekend.
Sunday 5/28/06 Weather, sunny, hot upper 80's Woke up to a boat s/v Intuwishin swinging into the s/v Zufriedin. They all moved and rafted up with us. What a site that was to have 9 boats rafted up. People on shore and in the little paddle boats were taking pictures like crazy. Its not a sight you see all the time. The paddle boats are really cute, they look like dragons. It looks like they are attacking the boats....LOL Went to the World Trade Center of Baltimore with Billie and Karen. Went to the top, the view is spectacular! We then went to the Science Center, and went to the Imax Theater and saw the 3D movie, Deep Sea, it was really good. Then we went to the planetarium and saw "The Stars above Mr Rogers Neighborhood" It was for kids, it was pretty funny. Terry and I went on the U.S.S. Constellation
The Pride of Baltimore was also there.
Karen had made reservations at an Italian resturant in "Little Italy" called Amechies. The food was really good, large portions of food. Most of us couldn't finish our meal. Walked off the food at the waterfront.
Monday 5/29/06 Memorial Day Weather, sunny, hot, muggy, light breezes, temp 92 Everyone left today except Ron and Carol, we rafted up with them. Other than taking to dinghy to get some ice, we stayed on the boat today. Met Tom Fowler s/v Whistling Maid, he is from England and has been in the states for over a year. His wife went back to England for a month and he is waiting for her to get back. Ozana and Julie s/v Halapeno showed up and they rafted up with us and Ron.
Tuesday 5/30/06 Weather, warm, sunny,no wind. Left Inner Harbor at 6:55 am Had to motor due to no wind. The motor kept overheating. Terry had to do repairs on the engine at the mouth of the Chester River. While he was working on the engine, we had the Jib up and was only moving about 1-1.4 knots. Finally got it running so it wouldn't overheat. When we got back to the marina, we stopped and got fuel (10.7 gal) and a pump out. Arrived back at our dock 2:45. Rest of day was hazy, hot, and humid!!! |

OK, here goes nothing. I am going to attempt to start a blog regarding the adventures of our sailboat, sv_cloudnine. She is a 1983 34' Hunter and is currently at her home port of Kent Narrows, MD. We purchased her April of 2005 in Oriental, NC. My husband, Terry, and his friend sailed her up the ICW to the York River in VA. Of course after several hours on the highway back to WV, I find the camera in the glove box. Why my husband had it in the glove box....well who knows???? So suffice it to say....there are no pictures of the trip up the ICW. Anyway, I will be updating regularly so ya'll come back and check it out!Current Mood: tired
